Born in Central America, Republic of El Salvador, in the city of San Salvador on September 3rd. 1976, with the objective to attend an unpleased and growing demand of manual sprinklers for the agriculture use, established as a basic concept, offer a low cost alternative that will cover the expectations of the demanding agriculturist user, in terms of service and quality. With this clearly defined objective, PROTECNO initiated the manufactured of the equipment. The project is originated through the ensemble of imported pieces from Italy, country that was identified as leader in sprinklers on the regional market.

On this way was introduced to the market in 1977 the “SUPER HIDRA” sprayer, which succeed the distribution on a national level in 1980, placing approximately in this period a total of 25,000 sprayers.

In that same year PROTECNO faced serious difficulties for the importation of the essential pieces for the SUPER HIDRA, what forced to identify another manufacturer sprayer that counted with a good regional prestige. This took to establish negotiations with a Spanish origin manufacturer, and in 1981 was introduced to the market a new model that will be known at that time as “BLUE PROTECNO” today known as P-17. It will follow the same strategy with the “SUPER HIDRA”, consisted on the importation of the 60% of the parts and the other 40% rest were going to be fabricated or given the final touches. This without loosing sight to be able to manufacturer the 100% on sprayers and counting on the results that will allowed it.

The following years marked a line on growing levels of sales that duplicated the initial demand on 1981, and at the end of 1983 with a 50% of the participation on the local markets.

The model P-17 focused its efforts on satisfying 3 conditions that were considered keys for its development: SIMPLICITY of use, QUALITY competitiveness and the provision of SPARE PARTS. Getting together this 3 value concepts waited for the clients, the sprayer PROTECNO is located as leader in El Salvador, and initiates in 1984 its first exportations to the republic of Guatemala, where markets investigations reflected a very significant sales potential.

In favor to the fortification of variables like: opportune offices , excellent service , guarantee fabrication and specially excellent quality, in the period of 1987 to 1994 was introduce and gain important presence in Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, Belize and Dominican Republic, the so called regional markets.

Since 1999 up to this date the work in PROTECNO has been oriented to the consolidation of regional markets, obtaining important participations in each one, this of course without neglecting the increase toward new markets, in such way that in that period it was incorporated to the export portfolio: Ecuador, Peru, Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica.

In the constant search of business opportunities, as in obtaining the satisfaction of our clients, from the year 2000 raises the necessity to develop a new line of equipments. (At the beginning was oriented to the coffee sector because of the serious crisis of prices that it was facing). Specialized Sprinklers is the generic name that includes Dispensers and Injectors that adjust to the specific necessities, not only to the coffee grower, but also other diverse products. To this date, with more than 30 years of fabrication experience, thousands of users and dozens of satisfied distributors with our equipment and services, PROTECNO attends 16 markets, quality on the agricultural segments , ranching, industry and at home.

On the constant search of business opportunities, on the actual markets but still more in the new markets, its been necessary to give a step to a new mark, that allow us to have access to other interesting segments of agricultural production. The new mark gathers some characteristics and important value criteria very appreciated for all the participants in the commercial chain, in such a way that its design, totally different to PROTECNO, with a strategy of differentiation, allows to participate with big possibilities in new and potentials markets. This new mark named EXTRA, making reference to its design that includes additional characteristics or “extra”.

In order to give support to everything above and based of course in the strategic vision of business, since 2003 we obtained the important certificate of quality management in ISO 9001 version 2000, which guarantees to our distributors and users, an invariable an excellent quality not only on the products, but also in the services pre and post sales necessaries to kept a commercial relation of mutual benefit in a long term.
